Good morning.
Yesterday, at a visit to my family doctor due to stomach pains that have persisted for several weeks, I was given a prescription for the drugs Contix and Metoclopramidum Polpharma. My question is, can I use the second drug? I've read that it's currently only used as an antiemetic and only in a few cases. Can I take it for stomach aches? I have pains in different parts of my abdomen, moving. There was no vomiting at all.
Thank you in advance for your reply.

Registered indications for the use of metoclopramide include selected cases of nausea and vomiting. The properties of the substance on the muscles of the gastrointestinal tract cause that it accelerates gastric emptying and improves the process of food movement. This effect is technically referred to as prokinetic. It was probably for this reason, and not for the antiemetic properties, that your doctor recommended metoclopramide. To the best of your knowledge and experience, your doctor may prescribe the medicine for any indication other than that shown in the package leaflet.
I can give you this information from a pharmaceutical point of view, but I cannot review the doctor's recommendations. If in doubt, you can consult again or seek advice from another specialist:
