Caution should be exercised when milk thistle and venlafaxine are used concomitantly. Milk thistle belongs to the cytochrome inhibitors of CYP3A4, which are involved in the metabolism of venlafaxine. This effect has not been conclusively confirmed, although concomitant use may lead to increased venlafaxine levels and increased adverse drug reactions.
