Hello
I have a question about taking Levetiracetam Accord 500mg.
He has been taking the drug since January this year after a single episode of epilepsy. I'm currently pregnant and the drug is supposedly safe for the baby, but breastfeeding is no longer :( Please let me know why it's ok to be pregnant, but breastfeeding is out of the question?
Best regards

Levetiracetam is excreted in breast milk and therefore breastfeeding is not recommended (which does not mean that breastfeeding is absolutely not recommended).
If treatment with Levetiracetam is necessary during breastfeeding, the importance of breastfeeding should be considered in consultation with your doctor.
Levetiracetam is excreted in breast milk in small amounts, much smaller than the doses used in newborns and infants. According to the current medical literature, serum concentrations in infants were 5-7 times lower than those in the mother and were below the reference range used in treatment.
It is also worth following a few basic rules when taking medication while breastfeeding:
If you are taking Levetiracetam once a day, you should take it at the beginning of your baby's longest sleep period, i.e. after bedtime feeding.
If you take your medicine more than once a day, wait until you are breastfeeding and take it immediately after feeding. In this way, the levels of the drug will be lowest during breastfeeding.
Through the gdziepolek.pl website, you can check the availability of Levetiracetam and book it at the pharmacy of your choice:
