According to the Summary of Product Characteristics, Acne-derm should only be used by pregnant or breastfeeding women if the benefit to the mother outweighs the potential risk to the foetus. Azelaic acid slightly penetrates the placental barrier and into the milk of breastfeeding women. The safety of azelaic acid in breastfeeding patients has not been established.
