Hello. After 19 days of sexual contact with a man (oral sex without a condom), I took an HIV test in a private clinic. From the description of the research - it was a test of the fourth generation. The result was unreactive. What does that mean? When should I do the next test? After 6 weeks or after 12? Does this mean that the next one will be reactive?

A generation IV test is a test that looks for both antibodies and antigen of a virus called p24 antigen. Such a test may show that infection has occurred after about two weeks. A non-reactive result is a negative result, a negative result - information that no antibodies to HIV or its antigen have been detected in the tested blood. However, the test performed 19 days after contact should be repeated. According to the algorithms known to me for IV generation tests, the interval is at least 6 weeks from the last risky contact and 12 weeks from the last risky contact in the case of III generation tests. However, you can also meet with opinions that regardless of the type (generation) of the test, it is best to repeat the test after 12 weeks. If in doubt, it is best to consult directly in the laboratory or with an infectious disease doctor: https://www.gdziepolek.pl/telekonsultacja You cannot answer the question of what the next test result will be (reactive or non-reactive) until you perform it.
