A child with cow's milk allergy may take medicines or foods containing lactose. Lactose intolerance is the result of insufficient production of an enzyme that is responsible for the digestion of lactose in the digestive tract. On the other hand, allergy to cow's milk proteins arises as a result of hypersensitivity of the immune system to the allergen – protein.
