My mother, 72 years old, suddenly got a blood pressure of over 200, she was prescribed a 5 mg amlozek. I read on the forum that the drug works after 20 days and mom has to take it only as the pressure rises something I do not understand.

Amlozek has a blood pressure lowering effect after just 1 dose. The tablet taken on an empty stomach gives the effect after about 30 minutes from admission, around the meal this time may be longer. The information that it works after 20 days is untrue. Hypertension is classified above 135 mmHG of systolic pressure (Guidelines of 2022). It is very important that the measurement results oscillate within this limit. Untreated hypertension m.in leads to changes in the structure of the heart and to organ damage (m.in kidneys, eyes). It is very important to take measurements regularly, preferably every day at fixed times, as well as in moments of worse mood and "jumps". The results are best noted down and shown to the doctor during follow-up visits. The factors causing the increase in pressure include, m.in. the use of stimulants, inadequate diet (too little fluid intake), sleep deprivation, stress. The therapy can therefore be supported by calming preparations, improving the quality of sleep and the condition of the nervous system (containing lemon balm, valerian, magnesium, vitamins from group B). Please remember that before using any new drug / supplement, you should consult your doctor or pharmacist, informing about all preparations already used.
