The salemeterol contained in Serevent does not cause weight gain. The cyclosonide contained in the medicinal product belongs to the group of glucocorticosteroids, which are well known to contribute to weight gain. However, inhaled steroids, such as Alvesco, have a good safety profile, resulting primarily from their local effects. The occurrence of systemic side effects, such as weight gain, happens very rarely, when using high doses for a long time. The dose of 640 micrograms per day (given at doses of 320 micrograms twice daily) is a relatively high dose used in patients with severe asthma. Therefore, the effect of cyclozonide on weight gain cannot be excluded. If you observe a sudden increase in weight, which is not related to a change in physical activity or eating habits, it is worth seeking medical advice.
