Verospiron is not a steroid drug. The active substance of the drug is spironolactone, which works by blocking receptors for aldosterone, which prevents the binding of aldosterone and inhibits its action. Aldosterone is a steroid hormone of the adrenal cortex, which regulates water-electrolyte balance. The drug has a diuretic effect and is indicated, m.in. for the treatment of edema.
