Is it acceptable to use bupropion and venlaflaxine together? I know that it is not allowed to combine in high doses but can e.g. 150 mg of bupropion be combined with 300 mg of venlaflaxine? Can any negative effects on the body occur with such a combination?

Bupropion can lead to an increase in the concentration of venlafaxine in the body. This intensifies the side effects of venlafaxine, which can be dangerous to the patient's health. If bupropion is introduced into therapy in patients already taking serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (venlafaxine is included in this group), the need to reduce its dose should be considered. There are studies that allow the use of both substances together to enhance the effects of venlafaxine without increasing its dose. According to current studies, involving a small group of patients, the use of 150mg of bupropion with an average daily dose of 224mg of venlfaxin , led to a 2-3 fold increase in the concentration of venlafaxine in the bloodstream. In conclusion, the use of bupropion and venlafaxine together can pose a danger to the patient's health. Doses of both substances are selected individually for a specific person, and the treatment should take place under the strict supervision of a doctor. You should not combine both substances on your own. I enclose materials that may be of interest: https://www.gdziepolek.pl/artykuly/czy-mozna-laczyc-leki-ze-soba
