Good morning, The gynecologist prescribed me Orlifique contraceptive pills. I took 1 tablet and the next day I still feel it gently burning and tingling in my left calf. Besides, I feel ok. Is it a symptom of thrombosis or a normal symptom when taking pills? I will add that the leg has not swollen and is not red - it looks normal.

The side effect of taking Orlifique tablets, which is thrombosis, may appear at any stage of using hormonal contraception, however, the risk of developing this disease increases with the increased length of taking the tablets. Considering that you have taken only one pill, the risk of thrombosis as a result of taking this contraceptive is relatively low (unless similar contraceptives have been used before, you do not have any known vascular problems and you have not had thrombosis before). It should also be remembered that there are other factors that increase exposure to the appearance of thromboembolism (m.in the occurrence of thromboembolic disorders in the family, age, smoking, obesity). Symptoms of thrombosis include unilateral swelling of the leg and/or foot or swelling along a vein in the leg, pain or tenderness in the leg, warming of the limb, red or discoloured skin of the leg. According to the description, you have experienced burning and tingling of the limb - if the symptoms do not go away or worsen, you should consult a doctor and perform basic tests for thrombosis. If you are concerned about developing thrombosis, you can also talk to your doctor about changing the combined contraceptive pills (Orlifique) to single-ingredient pills, where the risk of developing this disease is lower.
