Hi I have a question about the use of the drug Tarcefoxim. My mom has a positive test, she had a lung tomography done before. It shows a bacterial infection (or superinfection). She was given this antibiotic, but how do you know what bacteria or bacteria caused this condition? Do you need to do some additional research to "identify" the intruder, or is it just that this antibiotic kills all the potential bacteria? Best regards

Tarcefoxime contains as an active substance the antibiotic cefotaxime, which has a bactericidal effect on many bacteria, which does not mean that it is effective against all known microbes. Cefotaxime is indicated for the treatment of severe infections caused by bacteria sensitive to this antibiotic. To assess exactly what bacteria caused the bacterial superinfection and whether they are susceptible to cefotaxime, a culture of material taken from the patient with an antibiogram is performed. Culture allows you to assess the type of bacteria and their sensitivity to various antibiotics. Performing this test is time-consuming, so if you can not delay the inclusion of antibiotic therapy, the drug is administered "empirically", i.e. an antibiotic is used, which, according to current medical knowledge, will be most likely to be appropriate for a given type of infection.
