Good morning, how to properly switch from Ozempic 0.5 mg (3 weeks of use) to Saxenda 0.6 mg. How long after the last injection of Ozempiciem to apply the new drug? Is it necessary to maintain a certain time interval between one drug and another?

In response to the great interest of patients, a non-reimbursed drug Ozempic from parallel imports appeared in pharmacies. The availability of the drug in pharmacies can be checked here: Ozempic 0.5 mg https://www.gdziepolek.pl/produkty/99258/ozempic-iniekcja/apteki?pvid=275329 Ozempic 1 mg https://www.gdziepolek.pl/produkty/99258/ozempic-iniekcja/apteki?pvid=275351

This is not an easy situation because Ozempic contains semaglutide, which is used once 1 week, and Saxenda contains liraglutide, which is used daily. Although the substances belong to the same "bag", because they are analogies-GLP-1 and have a similar effect, the same purpose, they are different molecules and "decompose in the body" differently. In the case of a scenario of switching from a drug given 1x a day to a drug administered 1x a week, it is considered that therapy with a new drug should begin after the last dose of the drug once a day. Such a case is, for example, the change of Saxend -> Ozempic However, in your case it is the opposite (Ozempic -> Saxenda) and unfortunately I have not been able to get clear instructions on how this change can take place. In my opinion, it is worth considering how long the drug can work and apply a new one only when the previous dose "stops working". Below I describe my line of thought, but please do not take this as individual advice. In the situation described by you, the doctor who recommended the change from Ozempic to Saxenda should instruct you individually, also taking into account how you tolerated Ozempic. In my opinion, it is worth keeping at least a week interval from the last dose of Ozempic to 1 dose of Saxenda. In the case of Ozempic, the maximum concentration occurs approximately 1-3 days after the dose and subsequent doses are given every week to maintain an adequate amount of the drug in the blood. Semaglutide (Ozempic) should remain circulated for approximately 5 weeks after the last dose. Since the drug is used 1 time per week, it seems safe to give a dose of the new drug as soon as possible one week after the last dose of Ozempic. Due to the fact that the new drug contains another substance - liraglutide (Saxenda), it is necessary to start treatment with the lowest dose, that is, 0.6 mg and gradually increase it.
