Escitalopram - is an agent from the group of so-called SSRIs (selective inhibitors of serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake). In the case of these drugs, the phenomenon of the development of tolerance to the effects associated with the loss of their effectiveness (antidepressant treatment tachyphylaxis, "Prozac poop-out") has been described. The phenomenon is primarily related to the number of treatments undertaken with these drugs (many episodes of the disease separated from each other in time). Cases of loss of efficacy occurring during chronic continuation of SSRI therapy have been reported in patients who responded positively to antidepressant therapy. However, there is no definite answer as to whether the gradual loss to treatment is a matter of genetics or the response of receptors in the brain to the treatment undertaken. Nor does it apply to all patients. If you do not achieve the expected therapeutic effects, I encourage you to consult your doctor. It may be necessary to modify pharmacotherapy. Do not stop or stop using the medicine yourself.
