Is it worth determining the level of gastrin in the blood with non-acid reflux?

For a long time I have been struggling with reflux, which is currently non-acidic. It manifests itself as throwing food content into the esophagus and vomiting. PPI drugs no longer help at all. Gastroscopy confirmed reflux and loose drain. Is it worth determining the level of gastrin in the blood?

Thank you for your reply. Please let me know which drug will be best for non-acid reflux: Gaviscon, Alugastrin or Esoxx One? It is difficult to assess this to an outsider without knowing your state of health. Alginates (e.g. Gaviscon) that act directly in the stomach will be much more effective than drugs acting in the esophagus. They form a kind of raft and prevent the gastric contents from retreating into the esophagus. Unfortunately, changing the position of the body to lying down causes the leakage of this raft and therefore alginates are not recommended in night reflux. Ideal for use in night reflux seems to be a barrier preparation consisting of hyaluronic acid, chondroitin sulfate and poloxamer 407, i.e. Esoxx One. It not only creates a protective barrier on the mucous membrane of the esophagus, but also contributes to the acceleration of healing processes. Alugastrin (the so-called milk) is an old generation drug, currently rarely recommended by specialists. According to the current medical literature, the most effective method of treating non-acidic esophageal reflux is surgery - laparoscopic fundoplication. Will flaxseed seeds and Gastrosan tea be helpful? If so, what time interval should be observed between the drugs listed above? Gastrosan fix contains mucous compounds that may limit the absorption of the drug or their absorption may be delayed. It is recommended to take a break of 30-60 minutes against Gastrosan and other drugs. A decoction of flax seeds has the consistency of a viscous liquid that coats the mucous membrane of the gastrointestinal tract and can act as a barrier to the absorption of other drugs. Therefore, all medicines should be taken at least 2 hours after drinking a decoction or consuming flax seeds, e.g. ground. How do drugs such as Prokit, Gasprid or Metoclopramide work? Do they apply to reflux? Prokit is a drug that stimulates peristalsis of the gastrointestinal tract (prokinetic drug). Prokit is indicated for the treatment of gastrointestinal symptoms of functional dyspepsia not related to peptic ulcer disease, such as abdominal bloating, feeling of excessive fullness in the stomach, epigastric pain, discomfort, lack of appetite, heartburn, nausea and vomiting. https://www.gdziepolek.pl/produkty/64348/prokit-tabletki-powlekane/ulotka/172807 Gasprid is also a drug that stimulates gastrointestinal peristalsis (a prokinetic drug). The preparation is intended for use in adults in the treatment of acute and severe symptomatic exacerbation of chronic idiopathic or diabetic delay in gastric emptying (gastroparesis), when other methods of treatment are ineffective. https://www.gdziepolek.pl/produkty/31968/gasprid-tabletki/ulotka/61627 Metoclopramide is a drug with antiemetic and stimulating peristalsis of the upper gastrointestinal tract. In 2013, the European Medicines Agency (EMA) recommended limiting the indications for use to treat and prevent nausea and vomiting only. https://www.gdziepolek.pl/produkty/48718/metoclopramidum-polpharma-tabletki/ulotka/99373 Are there medicines available to improve sphincter tone? Both Metoclopramide and Gsprid will increase smooth muscle tone, the strength of propulsive movements and increase the resting tension of the lower esophageal sphincter, improving its emptying. Therefore, I encourage you to consult your doctor, who will recommend the appropriate therapeutic treatment for you.

Elevated gastrin levels may suggest: - Zollinger-Ellison syndrome (uncontrolled production of gastrin by the tumor), - taking strong drugs that inhibit the secretion of gastric juice, - condition after resection of the intestine, - gastritis type A (atrophic), - Addison-Biermer anemia, - renal failure. A single determination of the content of gastrin in the blood, without prior basic tests, but also the determination of the acidity of gastric contents, is completely unreliable and unintentional. Unfortunately, 17-45% of heartburn patients do not fully respond to PPIs, and in the case of non-acid reflux, gastric acid secretion inhibitors are practically ineffective and are not applicable.
