Tak, jeśli recepta spełnia odpowiednie wymogi formalne, a lek dostępny jest w polskich aptekach, realizacja recepty wystawionej poza granicami Polski jest możliwa.

Wyróżnia się 2 rodzaje recept wystawionych za granicą: transgraniczną - wystawioną w w krajach Unii Europejskiej i zagraniczną - wystawioną w dowolnym kraju świata.

Recepty te muszą zawierać następujące informacje:

- imię lub imiona i nazwisko pacjenta, adres pacjenta,

- informacje o leku: nazwę powszechnie stosowaną (międzynarodową) albo nazwę handlową, postać, moc, ilość,

- datę wystawienia recepty,

- dane osoby wystawiającej receptę w formie nadruku lub pieczęci i podpis osoby wystawiającej receptę.

Dodatkowo, recepta transgraniczna musi zawierać własnoręczny podpis osoby wystawiającej i adres placówki, gdzie wystawiono receptę.
