In the treatment of any type of cough in asthmatics, it is worth starting with saline inhalation. In the case of dry cough, preparations with the addition of moisturizing hyaluronic acid (e.g. Nebu-Dose Hialuronic) or ectoine (e.g. Ectodose) can be used.

On the other hand, in the case of a wet cough with mucus in the respiratory tract, it is worth using inhalations with hypertonic salt, which facilitates expectoration (e.g. Nebu-Dose Hipertonic):

For dry cough, you can additionally use syrups based on marshmallow, coltsfoot, honey or plantain, e.g. Grintuss, MucoDual:

On the other hand, preparations with acetylcysteine (e.g. ACC), bromhexin (e.g. Phlegamine, Flegatussin), ambroxol (e.g. Flavamed, Ambroxol, Deflegmin, Mucosolvan) and sulfoguaiacol (e.g. Herbapect) are contraindicated in asthmatics. These medications can cause bronchospasm and asthma attacks.
Unfortunately, most cough suppressants used for dry cough are also contraindicated for use in people with asthma, m.in. dextromethorphan (e.g. Acodin, Dexapini, Gripex) and codeine (e.g. Herbapini, Neoazarina, Thiocodin).

A child 4 years old with asthma gets inhalations of flixotide and ventolin on an ad hoc basis. But the question is what inhalations, or whether to increase the dose of inhalations, or what to administer, because sometimes we already spread our hands, while the little one has a persistent, tiring, always wet cough, in which it is difficult for her to cough up phlegm. To @Anna: Bronchial asthma is not a contraindication for Pecto Drill.
Can Pecto Drill syrup be given to a child if he or she has bronchial asthma?

Leczenie każdego rodzaju kaszlu u astmatyków powinno się rozpocząć od inhalacji z Natrium chloratum 0,9%, czyli tzw. solą fizjologiczną. Pomocne mogą okazać się również ampułki Nebudose lub Ectodose. Inhalacje tymi preparatami wspomagają ruch rzęsek i poprawiają nawodnienie błon śluzowych, dlatego ułatwiają odkrztuszanie flegmy w kaszlu mokrym, ale również hamują kaszel suchy poprzez działanie łagodzące i nawilżające na górne drogi oddechowe.
W przypadku kaszlu mokrego bezpieczne są syropy na bazie bluszczu (np. Hederasal, Hedelix, Prospan) oraz tabletki emskie (do ssania lub rozpuszczania w wodzie), które upłynniają wydzielinę, ułatwiając jej odkrztuszanie.
Przeciwwskazane u astmatyków w mokrym kaszlu są natomiast:
preparaty z acetylocysteiną (ACC), mesną (Mucofluid), bromheksyną (Flegamina, Flegatussin), ambroksolem (Flavamed, Ambroxol, Deflegmin, Mucosolvan) i sulfogwajakolem (Herbapect).
Leki te mogą powodować skurcz oskrzeli i ataki astmy.
Niestety również większość leków przeciwkaszlowych (sosowanych w suchym kaszlu) jest przeciwwskazane w astmie. Z pewnością należy unikać dekstrometorfanu (Acodin, Wick, Gripex) oraz kodeiny( herbapini, neoazarina, thiocodin). W kaszlu suchym natomiast bezpieczne są syropy na bazie prawoślazu, podbiału i babki lancetowatej.
Osoby chorujące na astmę nie mogą używać preparatów zawierających olejki eteryczne. Nie można ich stosować również w inhalacjach. Drażnią one drogi oddechowe prowadząc do skurczu oskrzeli.
Astmatycy powinni również uważać na zawartość barwników: tartrazyna, erytrozyna; konserwantów: benzoesany, glutaminian sodu, sulfaty; substancji nadających smak: kwas cynamonowy i sorbinowy. Niektóre z nich mogą znajdywać się również w lekach.
Przed zażyciem każdego leku należy dokładnie poznać jego skład, a w razie wątpliwości skonsultować się z lekarzem lub farmaceutą.
