Hello,
After giving birth, I often had herpes. I was recommended by other mothers to take cold sore patches so that the content of the change and contact with the baby would not leak out. I'm breastfeeding and I realized that these slices have tea tree oil (pasocare). Being on the lips, you definitely eat a little of it. Can they be used? Could I have harmed the baby?

The use of herpes patches containing tea tree oil in the described way does not pose a threat to your child. The amount of essential oil contained in such a medical device is traceable, and the possible ingestion of its microscopic doses while eating or drinking is not clinically relevant to the lactation process or the health of the infant.
From a medical point of view, your decision was very right - the patches have a key protective function, creating a mechanical barrier that minimizes the risk of transmitting the HSV-1 virus to the child through direct contact with the lesion. Please continue to use them, while taking care of strict hand hygiene before each contact with the baby, which is the most important element of infection prevention in newborns and infants.
