Is muscle pain while using Ezehron an indication for discontinuation of treatment?

Muscle aches can occur with Ezehron (ezetimibe), although they are more commonly seen with concomitant statins. This symptom requires attention, but does not always mean that the drug must be discontinued immediately.

Muscle pain (myalgia) with cholesterol medication can be a harmless side effect, but in rare cases it can herald a more serious condition – rhabdomyolysis (muscle breakdown), which can put a strain on the kidneys. If the pain is severe, increasing, accompanied by muscle weakness, tenderness or dark urine – contact your doctor immediately and consider discontinuing the drug until diagnosis (creatine kinase – CK determination).

In the case of milder ailments, I also encourage you to contact your doctor – it may be necessary to modify the treatment or check if the cause is not an interaction with other drugs. Please do not make the decision to discontinue on your own without consultation.
