If chlamydia is suspected, you should consult a doctor who will confirm or rule out infection based on symptoms and appropriate tests. If chlamydia is confirmed, your doctor will prescribe appropriate treatment.
Most often, chlamydia is caused by Chlamydia trachomatis, transmitted sexually or through direct transmission of bacteria (e.g. to the eye, during childbirth). Antibiotics are used to treat chlamydiosis. Treatment should also be carried out with a partner, and sexual abstinence is recommended until it is completed and the symptoms subside.
In women, Chlamydia trachomatis most often causes inflammation of the cervical canal - in most it is asymptomatic. Symptoms that may occur include, for example, mucous or mucopurulent vaginal discharge, swelling and redness of the cervix, bleeding during intercourse, burning and pain when urinating. In men, urethritis is most common (in half of men it is asymptomatic). Chlamydial anal or pharyngitis can also occur in both sexes.
