Taking two sachets of Depakine Chronosphere 500 instead of one 1000 mg sachet is a correct and safe solution, as the sum of the active substance (sodium valproate) remains the same. However, it is very important to make sure that the substitute is also in the form of Chronosphere (extended-release granules) and not, for example, ordinary tablets, because the way the drug is released into the body must be identical.

When changing the dosage, keep the same time of taking the medicine and do not pour the granules directly on the tongue, but mix them with a small amount of soft food (e.g. yoghurt) to avoid irritation of the mouth. Due to the fact that Depakine is a drug used to treat epilepsy or mood disorders, it is worth asking your doctor to write a prescription for a dose of 500 mg in an appropriate number of packages at the next visit to maintain the continuity of therapy until the 1000 mg dose returns to the market.
