Cartexan (chondroitin sulfate) used for osteoarthritis rarely causes swelling in the legs, but such side effects are possible.
It is also worth ruling out other causes of swelling, such as circulatory, heart or kidney problems. You can also report this symptom as a side effect of the drug.
In the meantime, please avoid standing and sitting for a long time. Try to move your feet and legs from time to time to stimulate circulation. Also, rest with your legs elevated above heart level (e.g. on a pillow), which helps reduce fluid buildup. Cool compresses can also bring temporary relief from the feeling of heaviness in the legs.
If the swelling intensifies, occurs unilaterally, is painful, reddened or accompanied by shortness of breath – you should contact your doctor immediately.
