Methanol is specified as an extractant, i.e. a solvent for the active substances contained in dry milk thistle extract. As a result of the chemical process, an extract is obtained, i.e. a solution containing the desired substances, which is then subjected to further procedures (e.g. distillation) in order to obtain a pure compound. The resulting substances are then purified, which is verified by qualitative and quantitative analysis procedures in accordance with pharmacopoeial guidelines. Similar chemical processes take place during the production of most drugs available on the market.
