Hello, I have a question about copper spirals. I know that liver disease is a contraindication to the use of this method of contraception, but I have another question. Would liver diseases, which could possibly occur after some time of using copper coils, affect their effectiveness? I'm asking because I'm genetically predisposed, but so far everything is fine. Thank you in advance for your reply and best regards:)

Liver diseases causing copper metabolism disorders, e.g. WIlson's disease, are a contraindication to the use of copper spirals. If you have a genetic burden of liver disease, you should consult your doctor about the continued use of the copper coil as a method of contraception if they occur.
Liver diseases are a contraindication to the use of this type of IUD due to the fact that the liver is responsible for processing copper in the body. In the case of failure of this organ and the use of a copper spiral, the risk of copper toxicity may be increased. The occurrence of liver disease during the use of the IUD will not affect its effectiveness, and will possibly increase the risk of adverse (toxic) effects.
