Hello, I have a question because I use evra contraceptive patches. I often sleep on a heated electric blanket, can the heat from it reduce the effect of the patch if I sleep on the arm it is stuck on (or not)? The patch is in place when you wake up, so it doesn't peel off. I have also due to the upcoming holidays. Will sunbathing, jacuzzi or sauna reduce the effectiveness of contraception?

If the Evra patch does not peel off, the use of an electric blanket does not affect the effectiveness of hormonal contraception.
Sunbathing or jacuzzi also do not affect the effectiveness of contraception.
At very high temperatures (e.g. in a sauna), blood vessels dilate, which can increase the absorption of hormones from the patch and slightly increase the risk of side effects such as bleeding and spotting. However, this does not reduce the effectiveness of the product - to quote the leaflet, "Normal activities such as bathing or showering, sauna use or physical exercise should not affect the effectiveness of the patch."
On the other hand, sunbathing can lead to the occurrence of unsightly discolorations on the skin, which we wrote more about here:
