Hello. A week ago, my daughter ate strawberries from a ladybug, which, according to information, could be contaminated with the hepatitis A virus. Yesterday and today, he complains of itchy soles of his feet. Could this be a symptom of an infection?
Daughter 5 years old. She hadn't eaten anything new in the last few days.
Are there any tests that can be done to confirm the infection?

This is too short a time for possible symptoms of infection to occur.
Symptoms of hepatitis A infection develop after 15–50 days (usually about a month). A person with the disease excretes large amounts of HAV virus in their faeces as early as 2-3 weeks before jaundice appears.
In children, in most cases, infection with this virus is asymptomatic or with non-specific symptoms, without jaundice.
A laboratory test may be performed, but not earlier than 2-3 weeks after possible exposure to the virus. This is a blood test - HAV total antibodies. The presence of IgM antibodies may indicate an active or recent HAV infection. Since the incubation period of the virus is long, it is important to perform the test no earlier than 2 weeks after eating strawberries.
