Tegretol is a drug that contains carbamazepine in its composition.
Side effects are included in the summary of product characteristics. Among them, the aforementioned increase in gamma-glutamyltransferase (following induction of liver enzymes) is very common, usually without clinical significance. Very rarely, there is also an increase in blood cholesterol, including HDL-cholesterol and triglycerides. The exact mechanism of this is not known.
You should be under the constant supervision of your doctor while you are taking Tegretol to monitor your therapy and other test results. In this way, it is possible to detect whether side effects are a problem.
