If you are taking a medicine with tadalafil for benign prostatic hyperplasia - the medicine will work even though you are not sexually aroused, you do not need to have intercourse or masturbate for the medicine to be effective.
According to the manufacturer:
"Benign prostatic hyperplasia in adult men:
The recommended dose is 5 mg taken at approximately the same time each day, either at or between meals. For adult men who are being treated for benign prostatic hyperplasia and erectile dysfunction at the same time, the recommended dose is 5 mg taken at the same time each day. In patients treated for benign prostatic hyperplasia who cannot tolerate tadalafil 5 mg, an alternative treatment should be considered as tadalafil 2.5 mg has not been shown to be effective in the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia."
