Provera is not a contraceptive and does not protect against pregnancy.
Provera, or medroxyprogesterone, is a synthetic progestin that can be used for a variety of gynecological conditions, including the treatment of irregular periods. Its action is mainly to regulate the menstrual cycle.
Therefore, if you are taking Provera on a doctor's recommendation and there is a risk of pregnancy, it is recommended to use an additional contraceptive method (e.g. a condom) during this period.
