Monacolin K has a mechanism of action similar to that of statins, and therefore supplementation at a daily dose of 10 mg may be associated with the risk of adverse side effects on musculoskeletal and connective tissue, liver, nervous and digestive systems, skin and subcutaneous tissue.
In connection with the Commission Regulation (EU) 2022/860, which indicated the need to withdraw from the market products containing 3 mg or more of monacolin K in a daily dose, as of 22.06.2022 the dietary supplement Lipiforma and Lipiforma Plus with the previous composition will be withdrawn from the market.
It has been replaced by a product that contains < 3 mg monakoliny.
