According to currently available information, animal studies with oral mesalazine (the active substance in Pentasy) do not indicate direct or indirect harmful effects with respect to fertility, pregnancy, embryonal/foetal development, parturition and postnatal development. According to this knowledge, there are no contraindications to trying for a child in the described case.
Pentasa can cause transient oligospermia, which is a decrease in sperm count.
