Sumamed (azithromycin) is an antibiotic used to treat a variety of bacterial infections. It is usually recommended to take Sumamed once a day because it is a drug with a long half-life. A long half-life means that the drug stays in the body for a relatively long time, allowing effective concentrations of the drug to be maintained for a longer period of time.
A twice-daily dose would be unusual for a standard Sumamed dosing regimen. Sumamed should be administered as a single dose once a day.
