Fluconazole is an antifungal drug that is often used to treat various fungal infections, such as vaginal, oral, skin or nail mycosis. The main mechanism of action of fluconazole is the inhibition of the enzyme associated with the synthesis of ergosterol, a component of the fungal cell membrane, which leads to weakening of the membrane and death of the fungus. In rare cases, it may happen that after the use of fluconazole, mycosis becomes more resistant or recurrent. There are several factors that can influence this phenomenon, e.g. fungal resistance, incorrect dose of the drug or duration of treatment, reinfection, conditions conducive to ringworm (e.g. weakened immunity). If you suspect that ringworm has worsened during treatment - please seek medical advice.
