The drug does not cause mental and physical dependence. According to the manufacturer: "In clinical trials, adverse reactions related to discontinuation of treatment occurred in 30% of patients treated with paroxetine compared with 20% of patients treated with placebo. The presence of withdrawal symptoms does not mean that the drug is psychologically or physically addictive. The risk of withdrawal symptoms may depend on a number of factors, including the duration of treatment, the dose used and the rate at which it is reduced."
