I have been diagnosed with SIBO, in November I was given Xifaxan, used 3 tablets a day for 10 days. It only helped to a certain extent. After two months I went to the doctor, he decided to change the antibiotic to metronidazole 3 x 500mg for a week. Can metronidazole alone help with sibo hypertrophy? Every treatment option I've found is based on Xifaxan and metronidazole only as an additive, or neomycin as an additive.

SIBO treatment regimens vary, and the decision to use a particular antibiotic is up to the doctor. Indeed, one of the most commonly used drugs is rifaximin (i.e. Xifaxan), but it often turns out that the remission of the disease is only temporary and after some time there is a recurrence of symptoms. Then the most common practice is to change to another antibiotic — other drugs used include: sulfamethoxazole with trimethoprim (eg Bactrim, Biseptol) often in combination with metronidazole (eg Metronidazole Polpharma), ciprofloxacin (eg Cipronex, Proxacin, Ciphin), slightly less often amoxicillin with clavulanic acid (eg Amoksiklav, Augmentin). Of course, there are also methods to relieve the symptoms of SIBO available in the form of over-the-counter drugs, medical devices and dietary supplements. It is also worth implementing dietary treatment.
