I have problems with menstruation. I've been bleeding profusely for two weeks now, and I've had spotting before. I take Idapen 1 tablet in the morning from about 3 weeks. Can these menstrual problems be caused by this medication?

Indapen contains the substance indapamide, which is a diuretic. A very rare side effect, i.e. in about one in 10,000 patients, is thrombocytopenia, i.e. a decrease in the amount of platelets. Platelets are one of the elements that plays an important role in the formation of clots, inhibition of bleeding. Most often, the first sign of thrombocytopenia is bruising or nosebleeds. This is unlikely, but it cannot be ruled out that in your case the use of Indapen caused heavy menstrual bleeding, especially if other medicines affecting the coagulation system have already been used. In this case, it is worth going to the doctor to identify the cause of heavy bleeding.
