Achalasia, or motor disease of the esophagus, is characterized by impaired diastole of the lower esophageal sphincter and the lack of movements of its central part, i.e. the shaft. As a result of these disorders, food does not pass properly through the esophagus into the stomach and is in the esophagus for too long. There is no causal treatment, and symptomatic treatment is aimed at reducing the increased tension of the lower esophageal sphincter, improving the emptying of the esophagus and preventing further expansion of the esophagus. It is recommended to limit the consumption of foods that intensify or hinder swallowing, and in some patients a crushed or mushy diet is also indicated. You should also avoid rushing while eating. It is advisable to set a higher part of the headboard of the bed, which prevents the contents remaining in the esophagus from being choked into the bronchial tree. At the same time, the doctor attempts pharmacological treatment, the purpose of which is to reduce the pressure of the lower esophageal sphincter, e.g. nifedipine, isosorbide dinitrate. Often, unfortunately, it is poorly tolerated due to side effects. I also encourage you to read the article: https://www.gdziepolek.pl/artykuly/jak-radzic-sobie-ze-zgaga
