First-line drugs for the treatment of erectile dysfunction in diabetics are phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors. Currently, 3 drugs from this group are used: sildenafil (Viagra), vardenafil (Levitra) and tadalafil (Cialis). Please note that the active substance in Viagra. The same substance under a different trade name will work the same. You have not given what dose you are currently taking, so it is difficult for me to clearly refer to the situation. The recommended dose of sildenafil is 50 mg – it should be taken one hour before sexual activity. The dose can be modified, with a maximum of 100 mg per day. For sildenafil to work effectively, 75% of patients require a dose of 100 mg. Any modifications in the therapy should be made after consultation with the attending physician familiar with your current state of health. The most important cause of erectile dysfunction in diabetics is damage to the neurons of the nervous system, i.e. diabetic neuropathy. In patients with erectile dysfunction and diabetes, it is recommended to stop smoking, regular physical activity, reduce body weight and improve glycemic control, hypertension and compensate for lipid disorders.
