Good morning, today the doctor changed the daughter klacid to sumamed -daughter allergic to ant. betalactam and cephalosporins. After klacid there was no improvement for 3 days (otitis). However, reading the leaflet I noticed that both of these antibiotics work on the same bacteria. Is there any reason to assume that sumamed will turn out to be stronger than klacid in combating the disease?I will be grateful for the opinions.

Clarithromycin (contained in Klacid) and azithromycin (in Sumamed) have a similar antibacterial effect. The advantages of azithromycin include a greater ability to accumulate the drug in tissues, which increases the chances of success of therapy, as well as shortens its duration. This improves the safety profile of the drug (lower risk of adverse reactions). In addition, it has a stronger antibacterial effect against Haemophilus influenzae and Legionella pneumophila: https://www.gdziepolek.pl/produkty/40213/klacid-granulat-do-wytworzenia-zawiesiny/ulotka/74626 https://www.gdziepolek.pl/produkty/75421/sumamed-forte-granulat-do-wytworzenia-zawiesiny/ulotka/94746 If you have doubts about the recommended pharmacotherapy, I encourage you to consult a doctor. Based on the symptoms of the disease, the patient's condition and the reaction to the previous treatment, the doctor will propose appropriate therapeutic treatment.
