I just got Evra patches from a gynecologist to start my adventure with contraception (I am 21 years old and I have not used any contraception before), unfortunately I had my period a week ago and I do not want to wait another 3 weeks to start using the patches. Can I apply the patch from now on without waiting for menstruation?

Sticking the first patch on any day of the cycle will mean that protection will not be provided from the first day of contraception. If you apply the first patch on any day of the cycle, you should use additional protection in the form of a condom throughout the first cycle of applying the patches - for 4 weeks. Only when using the patches from the next package will the protection be fully ensured. Sticking the patch on any day of the cycle also increases the risk of bleeding and midcyclic spotting - that is, when you have a patch applied. In the case of sticking the first patch on the first day of physiological menstruation, protection is already provided from the first day of applying the patch. There is no need to use an additional form of protection in the form of a condom. Therefore, please consider which option will be more beneficial for you and proceed as you see fit.
