Good morning. The child (5 years) was prescribed by a doctor Ambrosol syrup 2x5 ml. Today is the seventh day. The cough did not disappear completely, but it did not intensify. Should I reduce the dosage of syrup? How long should I give it or is it better to finish giving the syrup and give something milder, e.g. plantain syrup?

Ambroxol syrup contains ambroxol - a substance with expectorant effect, thinning the secretion remaining in the respiratory tract and facilitating its removal: https://www.gdziepolek.pl/produkty/4536/ambroksol-takeda-syrop/ulotka If the cough in the child is no longer wet (there is no secretion in the respiratory tract), but has turned into a dry cough, it is recommended to discontinue the expectorant drug, which may even unnecessarily intensify the cough reflex. As much as possible in such a situation, you can give, for example, plantain syrup, which coats the throat, thus relieving irritation and dry cough, e.g. https://www.gdziepolek.pl/produkty/71415/sirupus-plantaginis-syrop/apteki I attach an article that may be helpful: https://www.gdziepolek.pl/artykuly/kaszel-suchy-i-mokry-jak-go-leczyc
