The daughter takes Escitil 10mg in the morning and Triltico 50mg. There is still a problem with sleep, the teenager still wakes up at night. He has restless sleep spinning. He is under the care of psychiatry and a psychologist, he goes to terpia. Can Escitil not work on it? Taking it for 6 weeks ?

Escitalopram - the active compound of the drug Escitil - is a means from the group of so-called SSRIs (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors). In the case of these drugs, the phenomenon of the development of tolerance to the effects associated with the loss of their effectiveness (antidepressant treatment tachyphylaxis, "Prozac poop-out") has been described. This phenomenon is primarily related to the number of treatments with these drugs (many episodes of the disease separated from each other in time) - in the case of your daughter, this is unlikely, because she is taking the drug for the first time. Cases of loss of efficacy occurring during chronic continuation of SSRI therapy have been reported in patients who responded positively to antidepressant therapy. There is no definite answer as to whether the gradual loss of response is a matter of genetics or the response of receptors in the brain to the treatment undertaken. Nor does it apply to all patients. Both escitalopram and trazodone - the active compound of Trittico CR - belong to a group of drugs that affect the concentration of serotonin in the brain. In very rare cases, patients taking this combination of drugs may develop serotonin syndrome consisting of too much increase in the concentration of serotonin in the brain. Some of its symptoms are, for example, anxiety, mood changes or sleep problems. It is therefore possible that the cause of the daughter's problems may lie in this matter. The use of trazodone in low doses together with SSRIs in standard doses is usually safe, but you should watch your body. In the event that the daughter does not achieve the expected therapeutic effects, I encourage you to consult the attending physician. It may be necessary to modify pharmacotherapy.
