Good morning, the son of 11 months has e coli bacteria, weighs 9.5 kg. The doctor prescribed him the antibiotic Amoksiklav dose of 5.5 ml x 2 per day. This exceeds the allowable dose on the leaflet. I called the pediatrician again but he assures me that the dose is good and that the doctors have other calculations that may differ from those on the leaflet. Is this really the case? Isn't the dose too high?

Yes, it is true that the doctor may decide to use the drug in a higher dose or other indication than is given in the leaflet, which you can learn more about in our article: https://www.gdziepolek.pl/artykuly/leczenie-off-label-poza-wskazaniami Treatment of certain infections, in order to be effective, requires an increase in the dose of the antibiotic - usually this does not have a significant impact on the safety of therapy. What's more, in your case, the dose recommended by the doctor is not contraindicated for use in children with such a body weight and is sometimes used to treat some infections, m.in inflammation of the inner ear and infection of the lower respiratory tract. Title corrected. Of course, the answer was a dose of 2 x 5.5 ml per day.
Thank you for your reply. In the title, however, there should be a correction, 11 ml per day, as it takes 2 x 5.5 ml
