W roku 2010 wszystkie preparaty lecznicze zawierające sibutraminę (substancję aktywną leku Meridia) zostały wycofane z rynku europejskiego. Stało się to z powodu wzrostu ryzyka wystąpienia zawału mięśnia sercowego, udaru mózgu i zgonu z przyczyn sercowo - naczyniowych na skutek stosowania tych leków. Od tego czasu leku nie można już kupić w aptekach w Polsce.
