Saxenda is given as a subcutaneous injection in the thigh, arm or abdomen. Saxenda must not be administered intravenously or intramuscularly. The package leaflet contains a picture instruction for administration of the drug step-by-step, which must be read in order to properly prepare the pen, adjust the dose and inject the medicine. According to the documentation of the drug, "do not use the pen without prior training by your doctor or nurse". It follows that the endocrinologist should not only accurately describe your dosage of the drug, but also provide information on the correct and safe administration.
