If I have a UTI during pregnancy, can I use Zinnat at a dose of 1 tablet a day, instead of two as recommended by the doctor, since the bacterial load is quite low?
I am 27 weeks pregnant. Urine culture indicated infection with Escherichia coli with a fairly low titre (10^4 cfu). I have no symptoms, but the doctor recommended using zinnat for 10 days 2x1 tablet 500mg. If I use 1 tablet of 500mg every 24 hours instead of two, is it safe and will it reverse the UTI?

To @Kacha: According to the manufacturer: "Data on the use of cefuroxime in pregnant women are limited. Animal studies have shown no evidence of harmful effects with respect to pregnancy, embryonal/foetal development, childbirth or neonatal development. Zinnat can only be prescribed to a pregnant woman if the expected benefits outweigh the risks." The fact that you took the drug at different intervals does not matter much when it comes to the development of pregnancy. Nevertheless, this procedure may reduce the effectiveness of therapy. Nie, nie jest to ani bezpieczne, ani prawidłowe, ani nie doprowadzi do wyleczenia ZUM.
Przyjmując 1 tabletkę co 24 godziny prowadzi Pani do tego, że po 12 godzinach lek nie działa i jest Pani bez terapii na kolejne 12 godzin. Taki zabieg skutkuje narastaniem oporności bakterii (bakterie uodparniają się na antybiotyk, jeśli dostają go raz na jakiś czas) i albo brakiem poprawy w leczeniu, albo narastaniem dolegliwości, w związku z dalszym namnażaniem się bakterii.
Jeśli bakterie uodpornią się na lek, to przy następnej infekcji nie będzie mogła go już Pani stosować, a w ciąży ma Pani ograniczony zakres leków, które można bezpiecznie przyjąć.
Proszę pamiętać, że nie stosując się do zaleceń lekarza może Pani pogorszyć przebieg choroby i zaszkodzić bardzo nie tylko sobie, ale i dziecku.
