Why did the doctor prescribe Jardiance for 100% when I have type 2 diabetes and I am 90 years old?

A doctor can issue a prescription for Jardiance with a 30% discount only in certain reimbursement indications. I have included the exact indications below. To put it simply, if a patient suffers from diabetes and the accompanying conditions described in the indications, then they can be reimbursed for this drug.

A 30% fee applies in the following clinical cases.

<1>Type 2 diabetes, in patients taking at least one hypoglycaemic drug, with HbA1c ≥7% and very high cardiovascular risk understood as: 1. confirmed cardiovascular disease, or 2. damage to other organs manifested by: proteinuria or left ventricular hypertrophy or retinopathy, or 3. presence of 3 or more of the main risk factors listed below: age ≥55 years for men and ≥60 years for women, dyslipidemia, hypertension, smoking, obesity;

<2>Chronic heart failure in adult patients with full range of LVEF and persistent symptoms of disease in class II-IV NYHA: − despite ACEi (or ARB/ARNi) and beta-blocker therapy and if mineralocorticoid receptor antagonists (with LVEF ejection fraction ≤40%) or − despite ACEi (or ARB/ARNi) and beta-blocker therapy and diuretics (with ejection fraction with LVEF>40%);

<3>Chronic kidney disease in adult patients with: − eGFR in the range of ≥ 20 ml/min/1.73 m2 to < 45 ml/min/1.73 m2, on ACEi/ARB-based therapy for at least 4 weeks or with a contraindication to such therapy, or − eGFR in the range of ≥ 45 mL/min/1.73 m2 to < 90 ml/min/1.73 m2 and albuminuria or proteinuria, ACEi/ARB-based therapy for at least 4 weeks or with contraindication to ACEi/ARB therapy.
