The doctor recommended Amoxiclav 1000 mg 3 times a day for 10 days in a 43-kg child - is the dose not too high and can the treatment be shortened?

Hello, the child has purulent angina with a temperature of 39, the child is 9 years old with a weight of 42.8 kg. The pediatrician prescribed Amoxiclav 1000 mg 3 times a day every 8 hours for 10 days. After three days, the temperature dropped, today is the fifth day of pus, there is no swelling either, a slightly red throat. Isn't the dose too much for the child, please advise whether the dose is correctly prescribed and whether it is worth taking 10 days can reduce it by 7 days?

The prescribed treatment is in accordance with the summary of product characteristics.

Amoxiclav 1000 mg is used in adults and children weighing more than 40 kg.

Recommended doses for adults and children weighing more than 40 kg:

 Standard dose (for all indications): One Amoxilav tablet (875 mg + 125 mg) twice daily;

 higher dose (especially for infections such as middle ear infection, sinusitis, lower respiratory tract infections and urinary tract infections): One tablet of Amoxiclav (875 mg + 125 mg) given three times a day.

Treatment should last between 7 and 14 days, as prescribed by your doctor. Do not shorten the treatment without consulting a paediatrician (especially in the case of infections with high fever and clear signs of infection).
