Good morning. I am going to have my stool examined for parasites, helicobacter and intestinal candida. I know you can't take antibiotics or probiotics about two weeks in advance, but I have a question about smecta. Can you take it the day before? Does it affect the results? Thank you in advance for your reply

Do not use Smecta the day before your faeces are tested for parasites, fungi or bacteria.
Because diosmectite (the active substance in Smecta) has strong adsorptive properties – that is, it binds (adsorbs) harmful substances such as bacteria, viruses, toxins or intestinal gases in the lumen of the digestive tract – the medicine may falsify the test result.
Although it is not an antibacterial drug, theoretically this substance can partially affect the result of the stool test because it can reduce the presence of microorganisms or parasites in the sample. Therefore, it is better not to take this drug before the planned examination.
Even if the stool is liquid or semi-liquid, it will be possible to perform the test. It is enough to take about 2-3 ml into the container.
It may be worth taking care of a proper diet to minimize the risk of diarrhea. You can eat, among m.in, bananas, rice, light bread. Dairy products (especially milk), coffee, raw and prunes, large amounts of raw fruit and juices should be avoided.
