Metmin contains mometasone furoate (a glucocorticoid) which, when given through the nose, is designed to reduce swelling of the mucous membrane and clear the mouth of the auditory tube, which is a common cause of tinnitus. The mechanism of action of this drug is not immediate – the full anti-inflammatory effect usually develops after a few days or even weeks of regular use, so the three-day treatment period is too short to assess its final effectiveness.
The subjective impression of increased tinnitus in the first few days may result from changes in pressure in the middle ear as the airways clear, but do not discontinue the medication on your own without consultation. However, if the severity of the tinnitus is accompanied by severe ear pain, nosebleeds or marked deterioration of hearing, contact your doctor immediately.
When using Metmin, make sure that you apply it correctly (pointing the tip of the dispenser slightly to the sides, towards the wing of the nose and not towards the middle septum), which minimizes irritation. In the case of steroid drugs, regularity is key; Abrupt discontinuation can undo the progress made so far in the treatment of inflammation.
